Arden Fair, 106 Years and Counting

With the 106th Arden Fair fast approaching, we’re excited to share this interesting piece Sadie Somerville found in our archives last week. It is a clipping from 1947 about the Arden Fair, and it is interesting to note that Ardencroft had not yet been established and that the fair was quite different from what it is now. Mrs. Jones is general chairman of the committee completing plans for the Arden Fair to be held Saturday afternoon. The program will open with a parade at 2 o’clock, starting from the B.&O. Railroad Bridge on Harvey Road, and will continue with a program of sports, folk dancing, puppet shows, and other recreational features in the Gild Hall and the grounds. Dinner will be served from 4:30-6:30 p.m. in the hall.

Will Reign at Village Fair on Saturday, August 30
Teen-Agers of Arden at their weekly dance tonight will elect a king and queen to reign at the Arden Fair on Aug 30. The Teen-agers whose activities are sponsored by the Arden Recreation Association, have Mrs. Robert Robinson and Mrs. C. Albee William, Jr. as adult sponsors. Young people in charge of tonight’s affair are Turner Edge, Betty Harada, Elaine Lanciano, Reece Savage, and Harry Vandever. Dancing will begin at 8 o’clock.

The royal duo of the Arden Fair, to be selected from the Teen-agers group, will play a prominent part in the traditional event as announcers and in other capacities. Festivities will get under way at 2 p.m. when a parade of floats will proceed from the B & O railroad on Harvey Rd through the streets of Arden and Ardentown. The procession will end at the gild Hall where the fair is to be staged.

For this year’s Arden Fair, the Arden Craft Shop Museum will be open for visitors from 11-4 pm on Saturday, August 31 and from 1-3 pm on Sunday, September 1.
